Case Summary:
Our client Mr. La’Shane Scott has been speaking up about mistreatment in South Dakota state prisons–including the prison’s repeated failure to provide him with his prescription medication–for the last several years.
Rather than address his concerns, prison staff retaliated against him by using excessive force, placing him in housing situations where he could be harmed, and targeting him for racial harassment. The prison has also continued to deny Mr. Scott his medication, which has led to him suffering several seizures.
Prison systems like South Dakota are rarely sued when they mistreat people like Mr. Scott. NPAP is proud to work with our co-counsel to ensure guards and medical staff cannot violate people’s rights with impunity.
