Case Summary:
Alabama wardens are engaging in a horrific and shocking practice of stealing organs from people who die in their prisons. Wardens in both federal and state prisons are authorizing coroners to conduct “unrestricted autopsies” on people who die while incarcerated, which includes removing and retaining a person’s organs.
These organs are being taken without notifying or obtaining the consent of their family. Sometimes the family does not know organs have been taken until they are notified by the funeral home.
That is what happened to Violet and Jimmie Harrell when their son Matthew died in FCI Talladega. We are suing because no family should have their sacred wishes about what happens to a deceased loved one violated.
